Navy Lt. Cmdr. Jackson Charles Pharris saved the lives of 17 men when the Japanese bombed his battleship during the Pearl Harbor attacks that thrust the U.S. into World War II. For his quick thinking, leadership and valor, Pharris earned the Medal of Honor.
